National Audubon Society enlists the help of volunteers to conduct the annual Christmas Bird Count. This year marks the 125th annual bird count, which takes place from Dec. 14-Jan. 5. Tiffin’s bird count, which has occurred since 1960, is set for Saturday, Dec. 14. Those who usually visit Proving Ground Farm to participate in the bird count are asked to find a new location this year as the farm is closed for the rabbit hunt.

The bird count is broken down into various “circles” that encompass a 15-mile radius around a town or other focal point. For the Seneca County area, the focal point is the City of Tiffin. Those who want to take part in this year’s count must register with the local “compiler” who will provide additional information.
